Yay! This is my second blog entry---and I have LOADS of things to talk to you guys about!
Shut ur eyes and open them--Fall is Almost here--and pretty soon winter will follow! (unless we have that weirdo indian winter again. That was super weird lol). As we transition from a summer wardrobe to a winter wardrobe the change is drastic--most people believe. However, when it comes to patterns, cuts and colors there won't b such a huge leap in fall 2012 fashion. Notice how patterns, bold strips and bit size to quarter-size polka dots are on so many tops and bottoms of summer wear? Well guess what--the trend continues! Not only does it continue, but the patterns will be BOLDER and BIGGER !! Prepare for a return of the BOLD look of the 1960s mod era! I am especially excited about this return because I have been DYING to buy a BIG and BOLD polka-dotted dress, and not the ho-hum teeny-weeny polka dot dresses reminiscent of the late 1940s-1950s era. I love bright colors. I love bold prints. YES. This fall season is gonna b totally awesome! So here we go!
Bright colors and Bold Prints will be all the rage!
Also--if you haven't noticed bright, bold colors are going NOWHERE so prepare to continue to see ; long length dresses, long length jeans and slacks in these colors and shades as well as tops---blue, coral, orange , yellow , green and pink. Except in the fall 2012- winter 2012 wardrobe line up, these pieces won't b mixed-and matched like they are during the summer--these pieces will become SIGNATURE pieces. As in it will stand on its own with little to no accessories and usually against a dark color like brown or the typical black.
The dress cuts of the fall and winter lines will definitely be reminiscent of 1960s mod dresses--so big and beautifiul girls this is GREAT NEWS FOR YOU! Since the cuts will be wide yet shapely, you will look amazing in these regardless of whether ur a size 2 or a size 16! And the dress types will range from loungy, to officey, to club like--I'm excited! So excited! And you should be too!! omg yaaaaay!! ^_^
The little school girl look--u know the mini dress with the colored collar that comes very short or to the knees--this look will also be sticking around . It can be dressed up or dressed down oh so easily. Along side that cute little number will be the up-down style tops/dresses--short in the front, long in the back. It's an interesting concept that shops have jumped on for inspiration and exaggerated it to the greatest extent--case and point, the entire tank top/blouse looks that can be found in American Apparel, lol. This look will continue , and eventually phase out after the season is over. But since the cold will be coming, the fabrics won't b air light like they were before, but rather they will be made of heavier materials. I eagerly look forward to their new reincarnation !
Also, not only will the clothing be big and bold--so will the hair! By now its quite apparent that the whole "urban, wild, curly, kinky" look is totally in and isn't going anywhere anytime soon. This also has the same feeling of the vibe of the 1960s--everyone was real back then, they took all issues seriously and it was reflected in music, movies, shows and of course, fashion. In the era of hipsters and socialists and the like, we are totally trying to copy that era--even though there never ever will be any era to come so close to that politically charged time period! So prepare to see two looks when it comes to make up--the incredibly fake and doll like look side by side with the incredibly real , rustic looking makeup. It will literally b turning into a battle of two girls--the chic debutante versus the down to earth urban girl. I personally believe that you don't have to choose, you can be both if you want! Just be creative is all that you need to nail those looks.
Shoes will also be on the more dangerous , grittier side....spikes can be found as the dominant feature of tons of current women;s foot wear. So if you want to ad a little danger to your outfit, you can let your shoes do the talking for you. Personally it's a little too much for me...but then again it all depends on which party I would be heading to in those....hmmm....
The Death of a Repeated Era Clothing Piece...Finally
Speaking of the 1980s, I remember ten years ago when I spotted the return of the 1980s to the fashion world--when leggings resurfaced. Yes, leggings. I both love and hate them , as they can be very chic yet very cheap and leave a bad aftertaste of 1980s in your mouth. But I have good news all--the age of the leggings being substituted as pants or tights or being popular in general is swiftly coming to an end. It is about time if you ask me, lol. Shop owners are so desperate to keep in production this horribly overused fashion clothing so much so that they have stooped to new lows--and started making 1980s blond bombshell cartoon/magazine print, 1980s graffiti print and NEON COLORED LEGGINGS. Oh, the horror! Unfortunately some shops that I consider to be very chic haven't escaped this one , horrible over sight--such as american apparel and Necessary Clothing . I pray that higher fashion forward stores such as the Swedish originated H&M , Bebe and Express don't fall into the same traps. *Sigh
But yes everyone--this is the end of the era of the leggings, although they won't go out quietly. Leggings were officially out this spring of 2012, but they will prolly linger around for another year or two. Just like they did in the 1980s. What can I say? --leggings are survivalists.
Where To Get the Look for the Cheapest Price
Shhhh!! Guys I'm gonna tell you a super duper secret!! Most of the clothes that I wear that mimic the styles of much more expensive brands don't even come out to over $30!! In fact, the wonderfully light orange colored well-fitted open-neck collared shirt that I'm wearing--although it looks fabulous--only cost me TWO DOLLARS. And the pencil skirt that i'm wearing to accompany it cost me $6.99. Mwaahahhaha. Yes the savings are insane for this look I know, I know! So now its time that I told you of my secret stores to shop at --where you can get fabulous looks for less that 1/6 of the real deal price ! ( I don't know math all that well so just go with it guys!).
1) H&M : Omg, I know the word is finally out about this wonderful, wonderful, pratically flawless fashion forward store! I bought so many amazing, amazing tops and skirts and dresses from them--one time all at once--it came out to to $32 bucks--altogether! 3 $5 skirts, 2 dresses on sale for $5 ( apparently things are always on sale there lol) and a super, super chic top for $7. Yup. I basically bought basics and cute little outfits for the summer just in one shopping load. And get this--the skirts WERENT ON SALE! That was their natural , normal price! Headbands for $2--perfectly hued flats and wedges from $12 to $30--with a steven madden type quality---Holy crap! If you guys dont know about this place by now you should! Now get there and buy , buy, buy!!
2) Neccesary Clothing : This is my secret, super duper duper fashionista store!! This place is the motherload of all things wonderful in one store! There are styles that complete whatever look it is that you are going for! Cheap but cute, sometimes flashy and very sturdy shoes! I love EVERYTHING in this store! Everything is always at a great price-- its rare to find anything over $40 here! This place has their finger on the PULSE of the next and newest thing--and the best thing of all--when they carry things that are mistakenly popular--they usually get rid of it pretty fast--and not by selling it! They also specialize in ripping fashion STRAIGHT from the headlines and into their store--I'm not kiddng--just look at the pix in fashion magazines and access hollywood and look at the clothes in their stores. Even their blog reflects how they see a celebrity wear something, they like it, they take it and then they mass produce it. Omgggggg I love this store!
They greatly value their customers and try their best not to steer them wrong--the same way H&M does, except on a more junior level. But still--the imagination and creativity that goes into all their apparel--including hidden or surprise peekaboo clothing or sudden shock cuts and angles--they rock. And oh YES. Their always $5 sunglasses in the front ALWAYS kick a** over the regular hoo-hum sunglasses you'll find anywhere else. And yea...ten foot tall models usually shop here...im just saying...lol ;)
3) Pretty Girl : "What? What's Pretty Girl? Where is it? I've never heard of it!"---well u SHOULD. Although it's mostly a spandex and cheesy place it has its moments on a daily basis. It's a store that can be found in mostly lower income areas /shopping mall areas , in brooklyn, queens, harlem and theres even one right here next to brooklyn college. What's so good about Pretty Girl? Well for starters--I got that blouse and skirt there that I was talking about--pluss things are maaaaaadddd crazzzzzzyyyy cheap. Most Pretty Girls carry the same products while others branch out and actually go outta their way to buy clothing from places such as Forever 21, Necessary Clothing and Loft --and they stick it into their stores. They have modest length skirts and tops sprinkled into the mix of tight and cheesy. But if u search through the cheesiness u will find true gems! Also , the shoe selection in the brooklyn college Pretty Girl branch --cheap shoes for like, $8 that actually look fashionably good--is AMAZING . It puts the more expensive yet more cheap "Rainbow" store franchise to shame. So take a moment out and go to Pretty Girl. U will come back with something you like for sure. Especially if its only $1 , or $2 or $3....seriously...check this place out . Do it before all your sizes are gone!
4) Forever 21: Yes everyone has heard of this store by now. It's no big secret anymore even though it used to be mine way back when. Everyone knows by now about their cheap and wonderfully stylish clothing. They rock. Totally. They carry everything . In fact they carry so many things that they need three floors for everything. There's tons of stuff to look through and choose from--thats the one thing that Forever 21 likes to offer more than any other retail store--they offer u multiple outfits, styles and personas all in one place. You can be goth, jock, preppy, chic, urban, business--anything you want to be. You can find what you need for your look in this store. This store is like where you go for all of your basics and extra spice--its thoroughness exceeds all others. There is nothing more I can say that you guys don't already know--this place just has IT. Always new, fresh and with it. Always.
Number one clothing store NOT to go : Conway. Why? Sure its mad cheap and you get good little things here and there ---but it comes with a price--its usually horribly DATED. Conway does carry fashionable things, but its usually after everyone else has it already, or rather HAS had it for quite some time. See when it comes to fashion, Conway is like the one sick and limping horse in the Kentucky derby race--it makes it to the finish line waaaaaay after everyone else.So for me, conway doesnt do it. If you want cheap housewares or random cheap things , sure go here. And if you want clothing that may or may not be in by the time it reaches them for $12 or a little more or a little less, then by all means go here. But shop here AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Yay! So I wrote this in a hurry to rush all my ideas out at once, and I hope it paid off! These places like to stay current and if you know what to look for, they can rarely ever steer you wrong! I hope u glamour girls will have fun bargain hunting and being fashion forward at the same time! Ttyl--and get some sugar and spice in your life!

ReplyDeleteI love your blog!! It's so chic and very true! I think I stepped into Conway once and ran out... No, no, no. Fall is coming and I'm excited about the new warm styles that are coming out, and the best part about Fall is that it is still warm enough to go outside showing your new clothes off without a bunchy coat covering it up!!! Can't wait to read more!
