Jewnited Nations--All About my New Fashion Column!

Hi all- I know I've been away for a while but it was all for a good cause. I recently began writing a fashion column for this new revolutionary magazine called Jewnited Nations. What is Jewnited Nations? Simply put it is a magazine that puts a spotlight on the true diversity of the Jewish Nation .

Jews come literally from all 4 corners of the world and vary in skin color, body type and customs (minhagim). It is a rich culture that is often overlooked and painted over with a big, broad "white" people kind of brush. And it's a serious shame since our differences and diversity should be cherished and celebrated!

As a "Jew of Color" so to say, fashion has a very important impact on my religious beliefs and personal lifestyle . So I decided it was time to acknowledge it! Within my fashion column you can discover tips to discovering your personal style, dressing modestly & modernly, dressing for your body type, dressing for your skin tone, and more!

Hey guys! Long time no see right?  I know , I know. I've been busy for a while but never have I lost my eye for stunning pieces! 
Brr! Chilly out there no New York? Yup. Fall time means layering fun time! So excited!

This blog entry is a special one for me.I am reviewing the amazing collection that is  More Than Just Figleaves. Also, I received the honor of walking in their darling, super quaint Garden Party-themed fashion show! My experience in being apart of the fashion show will be featured in a future post however--because this post is all about this collection!

The creator of this collection is Eve Emanuel. Her vision is to create timeless yet modern clothing for women.  Did she achieve this vision? She #nailedit ! So let me tell the story of how I came to know of the existence of this marvelous collection!

First Contact:

1) Glorious Tops



Instagram. This top. THIS TOP. OMG. The moment I saw this top I saw it all. The creativity.  The innovation. The style. The silky sheen. The most important feature? The sleeves. Why are these sleeves so amazing? Ladies and gents, I present to you a top that I have officially dubbed as the "Harem Pants of the Blouse World"--

The poofy sleeves, the elegantly fitted cuffs-- it literally resembles all that you love about harem pants--except its on your upper body! 

What are harem pants? Why you know--the choice wear of belly dancers of course! Harem pants became all the rage and a official fashion staple for many hundreds of years when the Arabian Peninsula first graced us with this innovative look. Think Disney's Jasmine and Aladdin.  "Arabian Niiiightss.....". Oh come on. You know you are thinking it too. No shame in it at all! ;) Sing it, sing it...

 Harem pants have been altered in various different ways throughout time but have truly never gone out of style. If  history proves anything they probably never will!

Thankfully this fashion look of the far, far past has been embraced by the runway and many celebrities in Hollywood today! 

Oh yes! Celebrities love the look too! And honestly, who wouldn't?!

 They are commonly made from material commonly used for a good pair of palazzo pants --breathable, soft and super flexible for all those moves. Chiffon, Silk, Taffeta--you know that material! The kind you love to touch and is oh SO gentle on your skin! Ah, but I digress! Let's get into this amazing top!

This top from  More Than Just Figleaves as well is composed of Charmeuse that feels like silky heaven! No expenses were spared in its construction! The pattern is simply breathtaking! With its Modernized-Vintage-Victorian-Colorful look it's irresistible!

The right play of yellows--mustard, creme, gold, beige and orange as well--gives this top a surreal morning sunrise effect. With its lively colors and shapes it could easily fit into any Impressionist era oil painting. Oh boy! The thought that went into this top is astounding. 


The icing on the cake are the buttons covered with the same amazing pattern. I would expect a well tailored top like this to be in the thousands . Instead it is relatively moderately priced !









This lovely top also comes in a lilac & yellow color combo. This color combo is great for your Spring wardrobe or when you want to throw in a little color in the dark, dreary days of the Fall and Winter seasons! 

My interest in More Than Just Figleaves might have all begun with this top; but when I browsed their website  to my surprise I found more choice pieces that caught my eye as well!

Next is the Floral Print Crop Top. The illustration is vividly stunning. It's reminiscent of your favorite fairy tale illustrated story or the best finished product of every coloring book that you ever owned. You feel so colorful and cheerful in this crop top. 

Additionally even though it is a crop top, the cropped area is long enough to be tucked into a skirt if it is your preference. And nothing is better than a piece that has flexibility . This crop top comes in the luxurious materials of Rayon Challis and Chiffon.




2) Refined & Modernized Dresses 

First off is the Shirred wasted Retro Dress. It comes in two stunning patterns of Pink Rosebud and Royal Blue Dot retro that can't be ignored are simply timeless! 

The Pink Rosebud Print Dress features a very fun print! Honestly, it brings to mind the classic Wizard of Oz scene in the Poppy Field! The lovely prominent mixture of pink rose buds with green grass captures that scene perfectly!   

When you don this dress you can't help but feel free, beautiful and kind of giddy! It's just the right hue of green and pink to 
make you feel this way! 


The Pink Rose Bud Dress fits right into spring wardrobes. But there is no harm at all in wearing it on a dark winter day when you need to show off your little bright light. This print is amazing and the Royal Blue Dotted Dress is also artistically impressive!

                           

Yes. The polka dotted dress has been done over and over for many seasons. But trust me--you've never seen one like this before!

The dots in this dress are anything but average. From far away they look like typical round polka dots. However upon closer inspection they are not perfect round dots. Instead, they are abstract dots more closely resembling clouds ! The abstract cloud-like dots give you a true sense of freedom and imagination. 

You can feel inspired to do something amazing when you look at this dress . When you wear it you also can't help to feel a sense of thorough independent confidence. This dress literally defies the polka dot look stereotype. It's one of the most unique polka dotted dresses that I have seen in a long time!

 It's summer time so you better have your summer tees and tops ready! Wondering where to get  an affordable one that makes an awesome impression? Well I've got the places for you -- www.necessaryclothing.com and www.forever21.com . Yup. As usual, these fashion-forward stores have their finger on the pulse of what's hot!

The Selfie Top Craze

You know you do it!

Ever since Mr. Steve Jobs created the technology to allow you to take selfies with your cell it has become a universal, everyday practice of millions of people everywhere. The Selfie trend is currently at its height now; even inspiring the ever popular " #Selfie" song by the Chainsmokers!  

Then it took on a whole new life when it was revealed on New Years Eve that the Number One most used word of the year was "Selfie"! Then Webster Dictionary was like " Ok guys, let's make this an official word". And then they totally did. YES. The Selfie Craze is inescapable and absolutely awesome. So it has also inspired actual clothing and these tees are ingenious, cute and just plain epic!

Have Parents/Grandparents who constantly ask you"What's with this Selfie business?" Well, there's a tee for that.Let them read it and stop annoying you with these modern age questions. OMG, finally.

A twist on this selfie trend would be an excellent use of wordplay. You can see this interesting twist displayed in the tee below. Word play on new words is so exciting! It doesn't matter how anyone responds to this tee. All that matters is that it's just plain epic.

Don't want to be too in your face with your top? Don't wanna be too funny? Well then just be plainly honest. Some of us want people to know for sure 100% that we are the ones that totally took that pic. Some of us also get annoyed when everything in our mirror pix are perfect except for the backwards words on our cool tops. Well then this tee is perfect for you guys, it totally gets the struggle of the backwards words! 

Hate how your catch phrase tops alwayscome out backwards with a selfie?Well, they've got a top for that. This is INGENIOUS! 

                            There are of course, self-explanatory 

            ones that just say, well " Selfie" . 

Then there are tops that are brutally and wonderfully honest such as "Celfie Queen" seen here. Yup. How many of you girls out there deem yourself the Queen of Selfies? How many of you are dubbed the Queen of Selfies in your social group?  Everyone has one. So whether you are self-proclaimed or the actual Selfie Queen--this top is totally for you! You know what it is! 

The Dance Top Craze

Yes, EDM, Coachella , Lollapaloza, TomorrowLand, Burning Man--the season is upon us. While some festivals have come and gone there are still many more to look forward to. Whether a musical festival ; a secret totally illegal warehouse party or a popular dance style, there are tops for that!

1) Twerkin

Let's start with---Twerkin. Why? Well cause it's something that went viral after the whole Miley Cyrus stunt on the awards show. Yes, Twerkin has been around for a while and is an evolved, tweaked version of typical booty-shaking dance moves--but it is something inescapable. I'm not going to get into the whole super political-racial-philosophical debate of how when a white girl does something it is more favorable in the media than when a black girl does it, blah blah blah. It is what it is. And blond haired blue eyed Miley knew exactly what to do to make her career take off in an explosive way. Nope, I'm not posting any videos or pix of Miley twerking. Not even. She doesn't even have a butt--has anyone ever noticed that? It's all bone...eww :(

Next to the Dirty South; I'm pretty sure that New York IS indeed the city of Twerking. Damn you Miley Cyrus, damn you!

2)Rave 

Rave is a lifestyle. Carefree dancing and completely uninhibited.
Yup, they've got a top for that!

Come on. If you are in your teens, 20s or early 30s and you never raved in your life, you totally wasted your life. Seriously. The neon colors. Strobe lights. The  glow-in-the-dark light sticks. The smoke. The messy and sticky floor. The crazy face paint. The sweating dancing machines that are people. The nonstop crazy and highly questionable shots handed out. The crazy costumes that make every rave Halloween and no one thinks twice about it. The pure ecstasy of dancing to electronic music (trance, house, dubstep, or all 3-in-1) . Or the actual Ecstasy that you're taking ( or Molly, the more extreme version of E). I don't approve of drug use, but we all know that it's present in that scene. But you don't have to do the drugs to love the rave scene. Now even though costumes; crazy wigs; fairy wings and hair garlands are the typical choice of clothing to wear--it doesn't hurt to wear a top that actually says it. :)

3) Festivals 

Love expressed? Check.Flowers shown? Check.Ready for a festival now!

Now music festivals are unique creations. They are filled with many different types of people. Most of these people fall under the categories of "chillers" or "hippies" . Some people are way off the reservation; but most just wanna spread love and happiness and come together to experience life changing, soul-bending music.

of screaming out to people

Hi all! I'm back from another hiatus but I haven't once lost touch with what's going on out there. So technically the first day of Spring was about a week or so ago. I know. It's cold, it's wet and (maybe) still snowing outside. But according to the calendar, it is Spring time. So I'm gonna pretend it's the season and I'm going to start showing my spring colors! I'll give you a brief break down of the colors you will be seeing this season that will be essential for your closet! 


Spring Color Trends that Will Rock Your World!

1) Cobalt Blue

4)Trending Bright Lips Colors 

A) Orange Lips

When does Zooey Deschanel ever get a shade wrong?
Answer=never.

I have been dying to wear this color since I bought my first orange shade of lipstick three years ago. I love how the shade I wear glows on my lips and illuminates my skin tone. You will love what orange does for you too!

Not all orange shades are perfect for you. Unless you are the type of gal that likes to wear outlandish colors that fit a Rave scene more than they do in realistic everyday life; the hue of the orange lipstick/gloss you choose must be carefully and craftily chosen.

Many of you girls have seen make up ads featuring models/celebrities wearing orange shades by now. Usually these models/celebrities are featured with porcelain, "snow white" colored skin. Generally some girls will assume that if you are "snow white" light you will have it easier than girls with a huge dosage of Melanin in their skin. It's sad but true. It's also easier to choose what other makeup to apply because orange is very colorful and those extremely light skin tones are thirsty for splashes of color. But oh no--what if you are a red head?! Or you have yellowish blond hair?! No matter how "snow white" your skin is, your hair color will have a massive impact on what shade looks good on you. It's not easy for any of us girls!

Have color? Be careful. Choose wisely. Shop at stores where you can return a failed makeup shade (such as CVS) or go to a Sephora or Mac specialist to make sure you know what you need before you make that purchase. Orange is a serious color that can go seriously wrong if you don't choose wisely! Good luck girls!

B)  Hot Pink

Magenta is the safest hot pink!  Hot Pink is fun but deadly, so Magenta is  always the safest way to go. It looks lovely especially with darker skin tones. All major makeup companies are pushing it so you can buy expensive, Ala Sephora, or inexpensive , Ala Covergirl.

Trust me girls, once you possess the perfect Magenta, the whole process to get it will be totally worth it!

C) Nude Lips. Yes, they are still in style and probably always will be. Which is great. Because let's be honest girls, make up trends come and go, but the Natural Look is forever. For Spring and Summer time break out the bright pink colors to mirror the blooming flowers and let Spring in!
